Public Programs

Seven public programs with different focus and for different audiences were developed as part of the “Building Bridges audience engagement” program.

STORYTELLING IN AUSTRALIA AUSSIEBRIJES (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MEXVIC)

In this workshop, kids and their families learnt and performed different myths and legends of the Mexican culture, such as "the dog of the Gods" (Xoloescuincle), "the volcano lovers" (Popocatepetl e Iztaccihuatl), "the Mexico city foundation" (Mexican Flag coat of arms), and "The rabbit on the Moon".

FILM TRIVIA AND DISCUSSION ON LATIN AMERICAN FILMS (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MELBOURNE FILMOTECA)

During this session, participants watched a documentary about Melbourne Filmoteca, listened Paulette Arvizu’s (Palace Cinema and Former Manager of Filmoteca) migration story and contribution to Victoria within the Film industry and played a film trivia.

KIDS WORKSHOP: CARTA ILUSTRADA A LATINOAMÉRICA (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CASA CULTURA)

In this workshop, adults and children exchanged the memories and desires that connect them to the Latin America they left behind or merely imagine possible.

POETRY SESSION: A VOZ LIMPIA (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CASA CULTURA)

A Voz Limpia is a poetry collective and independent publisher. It gathers storytellers and writers of all persuasions, mostly from Latin America, mostly in Spanish, mostly in Australia. Since 2016, the group reads once a month at free, public events, and has been invited to participate in several festivals and events. A Voz Limpia has published 6 books (3 anthologies featuring over 70 poets in total, and 3 author books). On this occasion, the group gathered to present a reading of original writings from six of its regular participants: Raul Sanchez Urribarri, Grace Amigo, Oscar Socias, Cloé Karagozlu, Alfredo Muñoz and Kalindi Victoria.

AN AFTERNOON WITH MUSIC: PEÑA: SESIÓN CON MÚSICOS (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CASA CULTURA)

A close encounter with a group of musicians originally from Latin America or closely connected to it. In this intimate performance, the guest musicians shared their story and the role that music has played in shaping their experiences and their identity, and how it has influenced their connection to the Americas. They, of course, also performed a handful of original and traditional songs from their repertoire.
The evening included performances by Alejandro Vargas, Ximena Abarca, Rodolfo Hechavarria Despaigne Panga and Bonnie Smith.

NETWORKING SESSIONS FOR PROFESSIONALS, ENTREPRENEURS & BUSINESSES: GO GLOBAL! (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOMOS21)

In this session, participants learnt from Somos21 how to gain visibility and access to networks, opportunities and skills across Australia and Latin America.

COME AND SING ALONG TRADITIONAL LATIN AMERICAN SONGS: VEN A CANTAR! (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNITED)

"Come to sing" provided a perfect opportunity to bring together the traditions of the Spanish-speakers in Victoria through music. During this event, popular songs were the main focus. Participants sang along the singer Vicky Ferrada who offered her art to unify.
